How do I change my Internet from HTML to text-only?

I am totally frustrated with the silly little animations and ads that punctuate my browsings on the internet, and want to try a refreshing respite from them for a while -- sort of a mini-vacation, without leaving home. Some of you may remember the early days of the internet when the content was not for entertainment, but for education -- the search for facts, and content was text only. Of course, that was before the general public had access. Anyway, to that end, I want to make my browser (IE-7) text-only for a while. Does anyone know how this is done? If I like it, I may try to put a dial on my cell phone.
