Irish surename?

Hi. I am adopted (at a very early age) so I dont know my real parents. I did recently however find the last name of my birth mother, it was Mellon. After doing some research I found that it is Irish. Mainly derived from O'Mallon/O'Millian ect. Just looking for some second opinions on it. Hope i'm right. :) Thanks.
