In tennis and squash would you say that you are allowed one bounce or two bounces?

My chum and I are debating whether you would say your allowed one bounce or two bounces considering the ball can only bounce once before it is an illegal shot however it has been also stated that you are allowed two bounces but you just can't hit it after the second one. What do you think?
