Recording songs for beginners?

so lets just say im not the sharpest tool in the shed. but i want to record a song just for fun. im a singer songwriter just starting out. what i was thinking was that i could make some techno beats on my computer nd stuff as the music, then record myslef singing the lyrics and layer that on top of the techno. (techno since i dont play any instruments) ive attempted doing all this but got nowhere. im so lost! i downloaded Audacity and AVS Audio Editor but its sooo complicated. im so lost! please share your wisdom with me? thank ya!!
