What to do about being called a cotton picker at work?

I work at a shoe store. I am a key holder... which is just under the istant manager. I was working with someone in a lower position than I when we started having a heated discussion. I didnt let anything hurtful come out, I just used sarcasm. Before I know it the person had said: "I don't think I've ever hated someone so much." I said: "wow, thats harsh." Then came a little silence. The person then looked at the hat section next to the register and says: "I'm going to buy you that hat to pick cotton in." I cried in the back room. I was so upset. My question is what can I do about this situation?
